Youth unemployment is currently one of the most daunting challenges facing South Africa, and entrepreneurship is considered an important means to tackle this issue. Through this project, we aim to curb youth unemployment by improving the support for student entrepreneurship at public universities in South Africa. To bring about this change, our South Initiative project aims at identifying and disseminating best practices in student entrepreneurship support alongside the creation of a student entrepreneurship development tool. Furthermore, the project aims at strengthening research skills alongside educational practices used by university staff. To this end, the project relies on a strong collaboration between Nelson Mandela University, located in a region with extremely high graduate unemployment, and the University of Pretoria, which has dedicated considerable attention to student entrepreneurship in South Africa. These two local project partners team up with Ghent University (Belgium), considered as one of the international best practices in student entrepreneurship, in striving to mitigate youth unemployment in South Africa.
