Together with The Flemish Ministry of Research, Innovation and Economy, we are pleased to invite you as a stakeholder of the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trial (EDCTP) partnership to an exchange meeting on the third EDCTP program the Global Health (GH) EDCTP3 Joint Undertaking (JU).

The GH EDCTP3 JU continues to support clinical research on solutions to reduce the burden of infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa and strengthen clinical research capacity. EDCTP3 is an institutionalized partnership between the European Union and the EDCTP Association whose members currently include 32 African and European states. Belgium is also a member of the partnership since March 2022, thanks to the commitment of the Flemish government which was made in response to a formal request by the Belgian stakeholders during the EDCTP3 inception phase. As a Participating State, Belgium can contribute to the governance of GH EDCTP3 partnership through a Belgian delegation that is currently managed by the Flemish Ministry of Research, Innovation and Economy, with the Institute of Tropical Medicine as technical advisor.

The meeting will be held on the eve of the ITM colloquium ‘Global Exchange on COVID-19’, and as such offers the opportunity for an exchange between Belgian stakeholders cross sectors and their counterparts from sub–Saharan Africa, including seven EDCTP participating states (Mozambique, South Africa, Rwanda, DR Congo, Guinea, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso) that are supported by ITM through Federal and Flemish Development Cooperation.

During this high-level meeting, we will:

  • Present the Global Health EDCTP3 Joint Undertaking and its objectives in research, innovation and capacity building.
  • Address how to promote and optimise synergy across various research and capacity building programs on African health; with particular attention for the perspective of African countries.
  • Provide a forum to exchange on potential joint research interests between EDCTP3 participating States from SSA and BE stakeholders.
  • Provide a forum to facilitate alignment of in-kind activities between different EDCTP participating states.
