Ahead of the 6th AU-EU Summit, the Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF) will host three high-level debates around key issues at the centre of the cross-continental partnership. The first one, taking place on Thursday 20 January 2022 from 17:00 to 18:30 CET will be focusing on the theme of climate and energy.
Confirmed contributors include Macky Sall, President of Senegal and forthcoming Chair of the AU for 2022; Frans Timmermans, European Commission Executive Vice-President for the Green Deal; Mary Robinson, Co-Honorary President of the Africa-Europe Foundation, Chair of the Elders and former Prime Minister of Ireland; Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All (SEforAll) and Co-Chair of UN-Energy; Laurence Tubiana, CEO of the European Climate Foundation (ECF); Benedict Okey Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank); Tanja Gönner, Chair of the Management Board at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ); Wanjira Mathai, Vice President and Regional Director for Africa at the World Resources Institute (WRI); Kandeh Yumkella, Co-chair of the Africa-Europe Foundation Strategy Group on Energy, former CEO of Sustainable Energy for All and Director-General of UNIDO; and Ambroise Fayolle, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (TBC).
