International workshop: Scientific Analyses on Pottery Finds from Africa

07-06-2024

Pottery production on the African continent is among the oldest in the world, and in many regions, the practice has endured into modern times. Compared to other parts of the world, the study of pottery in and from Africa using modern scientific techniques is still in its infancy. Thus, we want to offer a platform for researchers working on pottery finds from Africa and, especially African researchers, to contribute to an international online workshop on: "Scientific analyses on pottery finds from Africa: Challenges and perspectives for petrographic and geo-chemical studies", to be held on June 7th, 2024.

The main goal of this workshop is to bring researchers together and examine the current state of scientific studies on pottery across Africa.

We invite papers on all aspects of scientific analyses of pottery from any archaeological period in Africa. Please send titles and abstracts (max. 250 words) by January 31st, 2024 to dirk.seidensticker@ugent.be

The workshop will be held online using MS Teams.
