You are warmly invited to the launch of the First Waves Web Platform on September 26 at Pianofabriek (Rue du Fort 35, Saint Gilles).
First Waves is an open platform dedicated to sharing the stories of the Maghrebi and Black diasporas in Belgium, highlighting their struggles for dignity and revealing the enduring impact of colonial and racialized structures.
The platform features memories, testimonies, and archival materials, aiming to honor and repair these often-silenced narratives.
During the event, we will present the platform, screen video testimonies, and listen to poetic reflections. The evening will be primarily in French, followed by a reception. Testimonies include those of Ahmed Oubari, Billy Kalonji, Fatiha Saidi, and others, filmed by Mustapha Bandini and Najib Chairi. Poetic impressions will be shared by Myriem El-Kaddouri, Kavena Gomos/Le Dauphin, Avery Bertrand Iradukunda, and Zaineb Hamdi.
First Waves was created in collaboration with the 'Pioneers of Anti-Racism Project' and the MemoryHistory Collective, with support from Equal.Be, MENARG, and S:PAM (UGent). The platform was designed by those.tools.
