Fellowship Opportunities: Training programme on millet research and related technologies

The Millets and Other Ancient Grains International Research Initiative (MAHARISHI), in collaboration with the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), invites eligible African researchers to apply for a fully supported, three-month specialized training programme on millet research and related technologies in India.

Led by the Government of India under its G20 initiative, MAHARISHI promotes international research collaboration, knowledge exchange and innovation in millets and other ancient grains.

The training will take place at the Global Centre of Excellence on Millets, ICAR–Indian Institute of Millets Research (ICAR–IIMR), Hyderabad, India, tentatively from 1 December 2026 to 28 February 2027.

The programme aims to strengthen scientific and technical capacity in millet research, contributing to climate resilience, nutrition, food security, and sustainable dryland livelihoods. Participants will gain exposure to advanced research and technologies in genomics-led breeding, genotyping and phenotyping, biofortification, improved agronomic practices, seed systems, post-harvest management, processing and value addition, nutrition, entrepreneurship and market development.

Eligibility Criteria

* Nationals of African countries aged 45 years or below.

* Holders of a PhD in a relevant life-sciences field.

* Researchers actively engaged in millet-related agricultural research and development.
