The main objective of this project is to optimize the production of subtropical fruit crops (specifically mango and avocado) in sub-Saharan Africa. This will be done by (1) studying the genetic diversity of local avocado and mango accessions (in Kenya and neighboring countries); (2) establishing in Kenya an ex situ germplasm collections of those fruit crops (3) optimizing the productivity of these crops by improving biological pest control and crop management.
