There is a ‘single narrative’ fuelling violence in the eastern Congo. It depicts the region as violent today because it always has been violent, and it over-emphasizes ethnic antagonisms. This project uses historical narratives and songs from different communities that tell stories about a more cordial and less violent past to counter this narrative and to build more peaceful societies.
